Cancer/Chronic Health Counseling In Claremont, CA
“There is no profit in curing the body, if in the process, we destroy the soul.”
– Samuel Golter
Cancer is not only a disease that effects the body, but can also effect nearly every other aspect of life, including your mental and emotional well-being and your relationships. Having worked in a major cancer center for just over a decade, I am very familiar with the challenges that individuals, families and couples face when their lives are derailed by a cancer diagnosis. Feeling that your life has been upended, all plans you had for the future are on hold, fear of what will come, fear of how your family will handle this, loss of control, loss of physical strength and health, loss of friends, loss of jobs…this list can go on and on.
There is so much out of your control once you hear the word “cancer,” and yet people do still find opportunities to live life fully, meaningfully, and exuberantly.
I have provided individual counseling to those coping with cancer, couples counseling to couples facing cancer together, and counseling to family members and friends impacted by a loved one’s diagnosis.
In my work with those whose lives have been impacted by medical issues, I especially focus on:
- Communication with family and friends about the impact of cancer/illness on your life.
- Adjusting to the “new normal/new weird.”
- Grieving losses.
- Embracing opportunities for change.
Whether your diagnosis is treatable, life threatening or chronic, there is hope for a better tomorrow.
