Couples Counseling in Claremont, CA

“If you wish to be a warrior, prepare to be broken, if you wish to be an explorer, prepare to get lost, and if you wish to be a lover, prepare to be both.” – Nalani Rose

Couples counseling, couples therapy, marriage therapy….words you never thought would apply to you when you first fell in love.

Relationships can bring the greatest joy, and yet undeniably also the greatest suffering. I have sat with many people through the course of couples counseling who tell me they have never felt as alone as when sitting right next to their partner – their partner who they are supposed to love most in all the world. What do you do when that person becomes a stranger? An enemy? What happens when you are face to face, and yet you feel invisible, unrecognized, misunderstood, or alone? When every discussion becomes an argument? Every argument a fight? And every fight leads to more distance?

Of course relationships take work, we all know that. Maybe you've put in the hard work but nothing seems to get any better. Maybe now it's time to try something different.

I work with couples young and old, married or not, queer or straight. I am happy to provide therapy to couples for pre-marital counseling, newly married couples and couples who have been married for many years.

In my work with couples, I especially focus on:

  • Healing from hurts ~ past and present.
  • Increasing joy and intimacy.
  • Aligning your values as a couple.
  • Learning how to clearly identify and communicate your needs in a way your partner can hear and understand.
  • Understanding your partner's needs and how you can meet them.
  • Managing difficult times together, and supporting each other through life's hardest moments.

My goal in couples therapy is always to create space where each person feels deeply heard and understood, and where you as a couple have the opportunity to decide how to move your lives forward.
